Russian lawmakers suggest 'wall of shame' for sexy-dressed teachers

MOSCOW, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Russian lawmakers drawing up new dress codes for the country's schools suggest a "wall of shame" for teachers who dress provocatively.

The State Duma, Russia's lower house of Parliament, is revising school uniform codes as well as a dress code for teachers that would ban female teachers from wearing short skirts, tops exposing cleavage or makeup deemed to be excessive, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

The Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily said the code does not allow for teachers to be fired for failing to abide by the dress code, but lawmakers suggested a "wall of shame" be created to publicly shame teachers who do not follow the rules.

Yelena Senatorova, a member of the ruling United Russia party and one of the dress code's authors told the Izvestia daily moral standards had fallen in schools.

"Teachers allow themselves to dress with undisguised sexuality and ... get side jobs in strip clubs or advertise services of sexual character on the Internet," Senatorova said.

The Komsomolskaya Pravda daily reported in April 2009 an intern at a Yaroslavl school was working nights in a strip club and a teacher in Togliatti was fined for running a brothel out of her apartment. Both women cited their low teaching salaries as reasons for their extra jobs.
