WASHINGTON, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A U.S. website said it looked at statistics including traffic tickets and road fatalities to determine Louisiana has the worst drivers in the United States.

Carinsurancecomparison.com said it used statistics from sources including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the National Motorists Association and Mothers Against Drunk Driving to rank states using a scoring system that looked at the fatalities rate for every 100 million vehicle miles traveled, failure to obey stops for traffic signals and seat belts, drunken driving incidents, traffic tickets and reported incidents of careless driving.

The 50 states and Washington, D.C., were then each given a ranking based on their scores.

The state cited by the website as having the best drivers in the nation was Vermont, followed by Utah, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Oregon, Maine, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Iowa and Massachusetts.
