Dec. 3 (UPI) -- A North Carolina man pleaded guilty to first degree murder on Monday morning after his wheelchair-bound roommate was found murdered and dismembered inside their apartment in August 2013.
Officers responded to the apartment after they were alerted about a possible crime and stumbled upon a "shocking" scene. Gastonia Police Department Captain Steve Duncan says Gentry's body was found wrapped in plastic sheeting after Hord attempted to dismember it with a hacksaw in order to cover up the murder.
Hord called his ex-girlfriend hours after killing Gentry and told her what happened. She was the one who tipped off officials about the possible crime. "He's actually mentioned it before about doing it and he said he's has just not gotten up the courage to do it,” she told the 911 dispatcher.
Gentry had only one leg and was wheelchair-bound. Hord was charged with first degree murder and with theft of a financial card.
