PUNTA GORDA, Fla., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A Florida man is asking his neighbors to search through their children's candy after his diamond ring apparently fell into a trick-or-treater's bag.

John Wildeman, 66, of Punta Gorda said he realized his ring was missing from his finger after handing out candy to about 300 trick-or-treaters on Halloween and he fears it may have fallen into a child's candy bag, WZVN-TV, Fort Myers, reported Tuesday.

Wildeman said he bought the ring, which has a gold band and a .25-carat diamond, for about $500 from a pawn shop. He said he can't afford to replace the item.

Wildeman said the ring was not as secure on his finger as it used to be because he recently lost about 40 pounds.

"Good things don't always last, but if someone could find it and give it back, it would really make my year let me tell you," said Wildeman, who is offering a $100 reward for the ring's return.
