The attempted record-setting event, called Norway's National Knitting Evening, began Friday night when a sheep named Guri was sheered and her wool was spun into yarn, The Local.no reported. Advertisement Eight hours and 33 minutes of non-stop knitting later, the team of knitters presented the completed sweater. The Australian knitting team that currently holds the record completed the "sheep to sweater" challenge in 4 hours, 51 minutes. The Norwegian event was televised, accompanied by 4 hours of knitting-themed programs. "I think it took them over 8 hours because it was their first time, and because the sheep's wool is very heavy and fatty at this time of year," Lise-May Spissoy, the program's producer, told The Local. "Maybe they will try again."
