LONDON, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- A British woman hoping to see the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain, before succumbing to cancer said she mistakenly took a flight to Grenada in the Caribbean.

Lamenda Kingdon, 62, said she made plans to use her accumulated British Airways air miles to visit Spain after discovering last year that her breast cancer had spread to her brain and she did not discover until speaking to a fellow traveler on her plane from London's Gatwick Airport that she was headed to Grenada instead of Granada, home of the ancient Moorish palace, thinkSpain reported Tuesday.

Kingdon got off the plane during a refueling stop in the Caribbean island of Santa Lucia and was flown back to Gatwick by British Airways, which picked up the tab for another flight to Granada and refunded the air miles she used to purchase the first ticket.

"I noticed on the ticket that it said 'Grenada airport,' but didn't think too much about it, because I know sometimes in other countries they spell their place names differently to how we do in English," Kingdon said.

She said the refunded air miles will allow her to cross another item off her bucket list by visiting New Zealand.
