ODENSBACKEN, Sweden, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Workers at a Swedish food processing plant said they discovered a 4.36-pound potato believed to be the country's largest.

Anders Eriksson of the L.E.V & Co. packing station in Odensbacken said workers investigating a jammed machine discovered the large potato gumming up the works, TheLocal.se reported Monday.

"It was so big that it got stuck in our processing machine and when I weighed it we saw that it was 1.98 kilos [4.36 pounds]," Eriksson said.

"Normally in Sweden with this kind of potato we would fill it with skagenrora [creamy seafood] but this one went straight back to my fridge," Eriksson said.

The discovery of the massive fontane potato, which was grown on the island of Gotland, coincided with Swedish Potato AB's search for the country's largest spud.

"The contest of who has cultivated the latest potato has been settled. Congratulations to L.E.V. & Co. on winning," Swedish Potato said on its website.

Eriksson said he and his staff plan to enjoy the prize-winning potato.

"Our plan is to use it for lunch during the week, perhaps with some seafood or cheese filling. It'll be interesting to see how many people it feeds," he said.
