David Babcock, 41, a University of Central Missouri graphic design professor, completed the marathon Saturday in 5 hours, 48 minutes and 27 seconds, and while running he knitted a 12-foot, 1.75-inch scarf, The Kansas City (Mo.) Star reported Monday. Advertisement The scarf, which was measured by knitting experts Cindy Craig and Traci Bunkers as well as Jim Josten, president of an accredited instrument and gauge calibration service, is considerably longer than the current Guinness World Record holder, a 6-foot, 9-inch scarf knitted by Susie Hewer while running the Flora London Marathon in April, the report said. Craig, Bunkers and Josten said they will verify the authenticity of the scarf to Guinness. Babcock said he is hoping people impressed by his feat will donate to the Alzheimer's Association. Hewer also runs to raise money for Alzheimer's research.
