YEKATERINBURG, Russia, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Police in Russia's Urals region said they have called off the search for a stray crocodile reported wandering around the area.

A police representative said the search for a crocodile seen wandering in Yekaterinburg was called off Thursday, one day after the reptile was filmed in some grass near the River Iset in the city's downtown, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

"Nobody is looking for it specifically anymore simply because the law enforcement officers have a lot of real things to do," the representative said.

The representative said officers will still attempt to capture the crocodile if it is spotted again.

Experts said the animal is unlikely to survive for very long in the wild, as the species is not native to the area.

Police said the animal may have been a pet that escaped or been intentionally released by its owner.
