TORONTO, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- A 70-year-old Toronto woman said she was shocked to find a $6,600 gold bar and $9,495 in cash inside the box for a clock she won at a hospital fundraiser.

Gloria Lee, whose husband, Martin, worked as a cancer researcher at Princess Margaret Cancer Center prior to his death in 2009, said she won an alarm clock at a fundraiser for the hospital last week, and when she opened the box -- which had been previously opened -- she discovered its valuable contents, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

"I was in shock. I was in total shock," she said.

Lee said the box contained a note from the man who donated the alarm clock box to the hospital.

The man, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he wanted the money donated to the hospital.

"We don't get a chance to open every gift that comes in. This one looked sealed, we put it in the storeroom to be used for any number of the special events that we have in a year," spokesman Kevin Shea said.

Lee, whose husband's cancer research involved using nano-particles from gold to treat tumors, said she was thinking about Martin when she passed the donation on to the hospital.

"He would be proud of me that I continue his legacy," she said.
