INGARO, Sweden, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Police in Sweden said a group of elk got drunk from eating fermented apples and blocked a man from entering his home.

Stockholm police said they were called Tuesday to a home in Ingaro, an island in Stockholm's suburbs, by a man who said the front door to his home was being blocked by four adult elk and a calf, The Local.se reported Wednesday.

"I'm not surprised that he called the police when he was faced with a gang of five drunken elk," police spokesman Albin Naverberg said. "They can be really dangerous. They become fearless. Instead of backing away when a person approaches, they move toward you. They may even take a run at you."

Naverberg said the elk, which appeared to have become intoxicated from eating fermented apples, left before officers arrived.

"Police who arrived on the scene reported that the animals had been warned that the police were on their way and wisely decided to leave the address," Naverberg quipped in the police report. "The elk will have to find somewhere else to get intoxicated."
