NEW YORK, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- New York police said a man who tried to flee with a stolen cellphone had his flight cut short when his legs were bound by his own sagging pants.

Police said Joel Donaldson, 21, allegedly punched a woman in the face near the Brooklyn Borough Hall around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and tried to run off with her cellphone, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

An officer who was directing traffic nearby spotted Donaldson running while constantly adjusting his sagging jeans and gave chase. The officer was able to tackle Donaldson when his pants fell all the way down to his ankles and stopped him from running.

Donaldson was arrested and charged with robbery.
