BAYONNE, N.J., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- A New Jersey police officer arrested a man who cut him off in traffic and then said he was an off-duty police officer and threatened to "[expletive] you up."

The Bayonne police sergeant -- who actually was off duty -- was driving his personal car when a vehicle driven by Paul Salaycik, 58, also of Bayonne, made a right turn from a side street into the same lane about 50 feet in front of the officer, The New Jersey Journal reported Wednesday.

The officer honked and moved into the left lane to avoid a collision. At the next light, Salaycik rolled down his window and told the officer, "I'm an off-duty cop. I'll f--- you up," police said.

The sergeant alerted dispatch and followed the other man until other officers arrived and pulled Salaycik over.

After police determined he wasn't a real officer, Salaycik was charged with impersonating a police officer and given a ticket for reckless driving.
