Harris was not armed, but was holding a gun in his pocket to make it appear that he had a gun, police said.

Police said Harris, who was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for armed robbery, had gotten a ride to the store from a female friend. Harris had told the woman he was planning to pick up some meat to barbecue at a relative's house.

Workers gave police a description of the vehicle and officers followed it to an apartment complex, where the suspect allegedly dropped the bag of pilfered ribs and fled on foot.

Harris was arrested at his relative's apartment on suspicion of robbery, resisting arrest and a parole violation. He allegedly told officers he took the meat because he only had $9.
