BURLINGTON, Ontario, July 23 (UPI) -- Authorities in Ontario said an elevator worker allegedly damaged a shopping mall escalator during an elevator technicians strike.

Halton Regional Police said John Dean Fournier, an OTIS Elevator employee, was one of two men who allegedly placed screws on the tracks of the escalator at Mapleview Mall in Burlington, causing damage to the escalator's treads and leading it to break down, The Toronto Star reported Tuesday.

Fournier allegedly placed the screws May 15, during a province-wide escalator technician's strike that lasted from May 1 to June 28.

Police said the second suspect has been identified and officers are continuing to investigate.

Fournier was arrested for one count of mischief under $5,000 and was released on a promise to appear in court in August.
