STUART, Fla., July 12 (UPI) -- A Florida woman whose vehicle was sprouting mysterious holes said she feared she was being targeted by vandals until she spotted the culprit -- a squirrel.

Nora Ziegler said she called the Martin County Sheriff's Office when she spotted a 6-inch hole in the wheel well of her sport utility vehicle she thought looked as if it had been made intentionally.

She spotted another, larger hole in another wheel well later in the day, WPTV, West Palm Beach, Fla., reported Friday.

"The police told me someone is coming after me," Ziegler said. "They asked me if I had any enemies, I said no."

Ziegler said the mystery was solved around sundown when she was taking out the trash and spotted the squirrel chewing on her SUV.

She took a short cellphone video of the critter.

"I'm not happy to see my car like this but at least I didn't have any enemies, at least not people," said Ziegler, whose family has dubbed the squirrel "Munchy."

Hugh Curran of Absolute Critter Removal of Port St. Lucie said he is not surprised by the squirrel's behavior.

"If they're looking to make a nest, chewing for them to find a cavity to make a nest, that's not unusual at all," Curran said.
