Cars collide when driver slows to avoid turtle

GALLOWAY, N.J., July 11 (UPI) -- Police in New Jersey said a motor vehicle crash resulting in two minor injuries was caused by a driver slowing down to avoid hitting a turtle.

Investigators said Dominique Flipping, of Mays Landing, was traveling west on White Horse Pike in Galloway when he slowed his vehicle to avoid striking a turtle in the road, the Press of Atlantic City, N.J., reported Thursday.

The vehicle was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Miguel Higgins of Willingboro, police said.

Flipping and a passenger were treated for minor injuries at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus in Galloway.

The turtle was unharmed and was released by officers into the woods, police said.

Higgins was cited for careless driving.
