Suspect allegedly stole puppy from Long Island dog-rescue store

MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y., June 29 (UPI) -- Police said a puppy stolen from a Long Island, N.Y., shop, did not have a microchip implant -- a fact they were able to use in recovering the pup.

Officers zeroed in on 23-year-old Justin Geiger after a clerk recalled Geiger had been in the store the day before the puppy went missing, asking about the little Rottweiler and whether it had a tracking chip embedded under its skin.

Geiger left the store without the pup, but sometime that night, the window of the Middle Island shop was broken and the dog was taken, police told the New York Post.

Geiger was booked for burglary and ordered to appear in court for arraignment.
