SILVERDALE, Wash., June 5 (UPI) -- Parents of a Washington teen who said their daughter was turned away from her prom because her low-cut dress showed her large bust want a public apology.

Brittany Minder, a student at Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, said what should have been a magical evening was spoiled by school officials who said she had to cover her cleavage to comport with school rules, KOMO-TV in Seattle reported Monday.

"I feel that it is because I'm bigger chested and there is more cleavage that you can see and there's nothing I could really do about that," she said of the incident centered on her strapless gown.

The school's dress code permits strapless dresses provided cleavage, midriff and lower back are covered.

"It was blatant from the start that the school was not being fair in how they were enforcing that rule," Gary Minder, the girl's father, said.

Minder's parents said they wonder what sort of dress the school would have found acceptable.

"A girl like Brittany should not have to go to a dance in a burlap sack because she's large-busted," Gary Minder said.

Minder attended her prom only for about an hour.

"I felt self-conscious. It was tough being there after all that happened. I didn't feel comfortable. I already had a blow to my self-esteem. I didn't really want to be there anymore," she said.

Minder said she has worn similarly low-cut dresses to other dances without incident.
