Domino's testing pizza-delivery drones in England

GUILDFORD, England, June 4 (UPI) -- A British company says it's testing the feasibility of delivering pizzas by drone at the behest of U.S. pizza chain Domino's.

The creative agency T + Biscuits says Domino's hired it to try out prototypes.

"We're looking at making flying pizzas a possibility," Tom Hatton, founder of T+ Biscuits, told NBC News.

Domino's, based in Ann Arbor Township, Mich., has about 10,000 shops in 70 countries.

NBC reported Monday during testing in Guildford, near London, a small custom-built octacopter made a 4-mile, 10-minute flight through the city to deliver two large pepperoni pizzas.

NBC noted there once was a proposal for a TacoCopter delivery app that turned out to be just a concept, but Hatton says the pizza-delivering drones project is for real.

"We're serious about it," he said.

It remains to be seen whether a pizza-delivering drone is practical, given logistics and safety regulations. NBC said Monday a Domino's U.K. representative said they "had a lot of fun putting the video together."

"Domino's is an innovative company that is constantly looking at ways to deliver pizzas as quickly as possible. It could be great to think that one day pizzas could fly!" the representative said.
