Corvette crash knocks out power for 2,000

BORING, Ore., May 22 (UPI) -- Authorities in Oregon said a man who lost control of his Chevrolet Corvette caused about 2,000 households to lose power in their homes.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said Ethan Cross, 42, had only owned the silver Corvette for a few hours Tuesday when he crashed it into a power pole in Boring around 9 p.m., The (Portland) Oregonian reported Wednesday.

Portland General Electric officials said the crash knocked out power for about 2,000 customers and crews were working Wednesday to restore electricity to the affected area.

Cross was not injured but it took about an hour to rescue him from the wrecked car, the sheriff's office said. He was charged with reckless driving.
