Lotto winner didn't intend to buy ticket

SANTA ANA, Calif., May 7 (UPI) -- California lottery officials said a single mother's $1 mistake turned into a $14 million jackpot.

Thuan Le of Santa Ana, Calif., purchased the winning SuperLotto ticket Wednesday at a CVS drug store. Thuan said once a week she buys $4 worth of Powerball tickets and one $1 SuperLotto Plus ticket. On Wednesday, she mistakenly put $6 into the machine. She used the extra dollar to buy a second SuperLotto entry -- and it turned out to be the winner.

ABC News said Thuan's four sons thought she was kidding when she said she'd won.

"We thought she was joking," her son told California Lottery officials. "But we thought would she really joke like this? My older brother said, 'Yes, she would.' "

Thuan's name was released as required by California law, but she declined to speak publicly about winning the jackpot.

She plans to buy a new house, travel and visit her parents in Vietnam, lottery officials said.
