Woman spends 12 hours stuck in mud hole

MINDEN, Ontario, May 1 (UPI) -- Police in Canada said they rescued an Ontario woman who walked into a mud hole while walking her dog and ended up stuck for nearly 12 hours.

Haliburton Highlands police said Sandra Van Alstyne, 64, was walking her dog Tuesday morning when she became stuck in the mud. She was located by authorities around 11:05 p.m., and freed by police officers and paramedics, the QMI Agency reported Wednesday.

She was taken to a hospital as a precaution, police said.

"Van Alstyne's dog Monte remained by her side for almost 12 hours while she remained stuck and unable to free herself," police Constable Paul Potter said.
