Chris Holmes, 31, who decided to quit his position at Stansted Airport in London said he decided a cake was the most appropriate medium for his resignation letter and spent hours icing the message, The Mirror reported Tuesday. Advertisement "To The Management, Border Force, Stansted," the message read. "Today is my 31st birthday, and having recently become a father I now realize how precious life is and how important it is to spend my time doing something that makes me, and other people, happy. For that reason I hereby give notice of my resignation in order that I may devote my time and energy to my family and to my cake business which has grown steadily over the past few years. Sincerely, Chris Holmes (Mr. Cake)" Holmes said he was surprised when the picture of the cake he posted to his Facebook page went viral online. Advertisement "I think my colleagues enjoyed the sentiment -- but they were reluctant to cut into it," he said. "It's definitely the most text I've had to put on a cake -- it's a bit scrawly! I wasn't expecting it to get so much publicity. I had to delete a couple of words as I was going along to get it right but it wasn't too bad." Holmes said he decided to make his 3-year-old cake business his full-time job after the March 7 birth of his son, Ben.
