NEW YORK, March 27 (UPI) -- Six Transportation Security Administration workers at a New York airport were taken to a hospital when one inadvertently fired off pepper spray, police said.

Port Authority police said TSA agent Chris Yves Dabel found the pepper spray container Tuesday at the Terminal 2 security checkpoint at John F. Kennedy International Airport and believed it was a laser pointer, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

An airport source told the post Dabel was "playing around with it" when the canister fired pepper spray at five his fellow TSA agents, causing all six to be taken to Jamaica Hospital.

Security checks at the airport were halted for at least 15 minutes due to the incident, police said.
