Ohio Eggshelland in its last year

LYNDHURST, Ohio, March 25 (UPI) -- A Lyndhurst, Ohio, family says this will be the last year they create a massive eggshell display for Easter, putting an end to the 55-year-old tradition.

Ron Manolio conceived of Eggshelland 55 years ago and recreated the yard display every Easter, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported Sunday. Manolio died at age 82 in August and his family said no one else could do the display the way he did.

Manolio's widow Betty and other family members put up the display for the last time this year.

"Everything comes to an end," Betty Manolio said. "It's 55 years this year -- that's a lot."

Each display has featured about 50,000 shells stuck onto panels and each year has had a different theme.

Previous themes have included Betsy Ross, John Glenn and the Wizard of Oz.

This year, the family created a bunny, a duck, a 45-foot cross and more.

Neighbors said they will be said to see the display go.

"It really has been a joy," said neighbor Al Roberts.

Teen serenades future prom date at school

ELLICOTT CITY, Md., March 25 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old Maryland boy says he asked the girl of his dreams to the prom by writing her a song and performing it in their high school hallway, and she said yes.

Bobby Chin, a senior at Centennial High School in Ellicott City, said he really wanted to go to prom with a girl named Sofia, whom he met about six months ago, the New York Daily News reported.

"She's very attractive and well dressed," Chin told the Daily News. "It's all that high school stuff, you know? She's really pretty."

Chin said prom came up in conversation between him and Sofia during a conversation at lunch last week.

"I just wanted to ask her, for information," Chin said. "I told her I'd ask her again, the right way."

So, Chin enlisted the help of his friend Kevin Qin to write a serenade for Sofia to the tune of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours," and performed it in the hallway at school Wednesday.

"What are you doing on 4/20?" Chin continues. "That's our prom you want to go with somebody? I'm hoping that person is you. Please make my dreams come true."

And Sofia said "Yes." The two will be attending prom April 20.

One of Chin's friends uploaded a video of the event to Facebook, where it has attracted more than 7,000 likes.

Opa-locka mayor orders underwear removal

OPA-LOCKA, Fla., March 25 (UPI) -- The mayor of Opa-locka, Fla., has asked that residents of an apartment building stop hanging their underwear to dry on a city guard rail.

Residents of the apartment building on Ali Baba Avenue in Opa-locka have officially been asked to take their underwear inside, The Miami Herald reported Saturday.

During a recent City Council meeting, Mayor Myra Taylor asked City Manager Kelvin Baker for the second time to have residents at the building to remove their underwear from the rail. She first asked Baker to talk to the owner of the apartment building Feb. 27.

"Tell the people their underwear must come down," she said. "I could say the drawers must come down."

Taylor suggested putting up a fence to prevent the building residents from using the guard rail to air their laundry.

Cab driver helps in robbery arrest

VALENCIA, Spain, March 25 (UPI) -- A taxi driver in Spain dropped off two suspected robbers he picked up to police after hearing their description on a radio broadcast.

The taxi driver picked up the two suspects just after midnight Saturday in Valencia, ThinkSPAIN reported.

Shortly after the suspects got into the cab, the driver heard over the taxi headquarters' internal radio system that another driver had been robbed at knife-point. A description of the attackers, who robbed the victim of all the money he had made that night, matched the description of the two people in the back of the driver's car.

Without telling his passengers where he was driving, the driver headed to the scene of the robbery, where several police officers were still investigating, and the suspects were immediately arrested.

The suspects, two Spanish men aged 33 and 45, allegedly committed three robberies on the same night. During one of the other robberies, the two allegedly hit a driver on the head with his head-rest.
