KENNEWICK, Wash., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Police in Washington state said a Cinnabon employee who claimed to have been robbed of a deposit bag faked the crime to pocket the cash.

Kennewick Police said Mirella Lorena Garza, 31, told investigators a man confronted her Friday in the non-public hallway behind the Cinnabon at the Columbia Center Mall and secured her hands with zip ties before fleeing with the deposit bag filled with the store's receipts, KNDO-TV, Yakima, Wash., reported Wednesday.

Police said Garza has admitted fabricating the story of the robbery to keep the money for herself.

Investigators have not revealed the amount of cash in the bag.
