Driver busted going wrong way

DUNMORE, Pa., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Pennsylvania State Police said they arrested a woman accused of driving the wrong way on an interstate for nearly 20 miles.

Troopers stationed at Dunmore said they responded at 5:37 a.m. Tuesday to Interstate 81 where Paige Cicardo, 22, allegedly was spotted driving south in the northbound lanes of the road, The (Wilkes-Barre) Times-Leader reported Wednesday.

"It was a miracle the operator and her passenger, or any motorist were not killed or injured severely from this incident," the police report said. "Due to the New Year's Day holiday, traffic was light on the interstate or the outcome could have been worse."

Troopers attempted to get the driver's attention from the southbound lanes using emergency lights and a spot light, but they were unsuccessful. The driver was stopped by a roadblock at mile marker 173.7 in Laflin, several miles from where she entered the highway at mile marker 191.

Cicardo was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and reckless driving.
