SEATTLE, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Officials at a Seattle beekeeping farm said bears were to blame for the loss of more than 100 pounds of honey.

Beekeepers at the Ballard Bee Co. arrived for work Wednesday morning to find the farm had been ransacked and the honey missing, KCPQ-TV, Seattle, reported Monday.

Officials at the farm said it was soon determined bears were the thieves.

Janetta Pickering, a neighbor of the farm, said bears are common in the area this time of year.

"They are out to play, they need nutrition before they hibernate," Pickering said.
