JIEL, Germany, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Police in Germany said they were trying to determine who nearly caused a crash by leaving a cardboard cutout of tennis star Boris Becker in a road.

Bernd Triphahn, a police spokesman, said the cutout, which was missing a leg, was reported about midnight Tuesday on the B76 road between Jiel and Plon, and at least one car was seen swerving to avoid it, The Local.de reported Monday.

"He wouldn't have won Wimbledon like that," Triphahn said of the crippled cutout of the now 44-year-old tennis player. "Someone must have had it in their cellar for ages."

Triphahn said the cutout would have appeared to be a person by motorists driving on the 62 mph road.

The spokesman said fingerprints were taken from the cutout and investigators were working to find a suspect to charge with dangerously interfering with traffic.
