STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A Swedish clothes outlet's line of fashions for younger girls is being scrutinized after an online comment calling them "hooker-like" went viral.

Malin Stehn, a children's author from southern Sweden, posted on the Facebook page of high-end clothing company Lindex that she was disappointed when she visited the store with her 9-year-old daughter, The Local.se reported Friday.

"I was extremely disappointed by the range. Is it really the wish of the 'marketers' (producers and consumers) that nine-year-olds should dress like, excuse the expression, hookers???" the comment reads. "I am completely for the idea of cool and cheeky children's clothing, but think that we adults should take a bigger responsibility for which signals we send to our young girls. How do you feel about this?"

The comment quickly went viral, receiving more than 55,000 "likes" and hundreds of supportive responses.

Stehn said she took offense to clothing items including low-cut tops and tight shirts with leather, leopard skin and black lace.

Lindex posted a reply to the online criticism.

"Lindex is an international fashion company, which means that some people believe that certain items should not be available for children, while others believe it's fashionable. Our aim is to offer a product range that appeals to many customers in the same markets we are in," the company posted.
