EXETER, England, July 7 (UPI) -- A kitten rescued from the back of a recycling truck in England as it was about to be crushed has been given a new name -- Lucky.

Lucky also has a new home, the Devon Waste Contract depot near Exeter, ITV News reported. Donna Cook, an employee, said the female kitten has become the staff pet.

Cook said the crew operating the truck heard the kitten mewing and stopped the crusher. When Lucky arrived at the depot, Cook took it to a vet who said it was only about 3 weeks old.

There is no way Lucky could have gotten into a recycling bin by accident, Cook said.

"That is the most horrific part of it, for someone to do that," she said. "If you put something in a bin you know where it is going to end up, and for someone to do that on purpose is horrific."
