Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe FAIRBANKS, Alaska, June 21 (UPI) -- Firefighters in Alaska said they were called to rescue a man who was stuck dangling upside-down about 25 to 30 feet up a tree. The Fairbanks Fire Department said the 53-year-old man, whose name was not released, climbed the tree next to the old Ice Park site on Phillips Field Road for exercise because "it was something he wanted to do," The Fairbanks Daily News Miner reported Thursday. Advertisement The man said he used foot spikes and a belly belt to climb the tree and ended up stuck upside down when he leaned back to rest. The Fire Department rescued the man using as platform/ladder truck. "He had a cellphone on a lanyard around his neck and called his buddy who called 911," the Fire Department said in a news release. "It was suggested that when he does this in future he not do it alone ... have a buddy with him. He picked up his gear once medics checked him and walked back to his car. Everyone then went home."
