Police said they received hundreds of calls about the object Thursday night and Yigal Pat-El, the chairman of the Israeli Astronomical Association and director of the Givataim observatory, said the object definitely was not a meteor, Ynetnews reported Friday. "After a while, it turned into a cloud ... it looked like an object flying high above ground and then disintegrating." Experts said a similar sighting in Norway in 2009 turned out to be a failed missile test, but Israeli military officials said they were unaware of any operations that could have caused the light in the sky.
