Underwear disguise falls from thief's face

LONDON, May 2 (UPI) -- A London liquor store robber was sentenced to three years in prison after the boxer shorts he was using to disguise his face slipped off during a struggle.

Investigators said Tazviona Maluge Bhebe, 40, entered The Broadway liquor store Jan. 11 with a pair of boxer shorts over his head and a knife in his hand, The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday.

Bhebe threatened shop worker Harry Mahalingham, 34, with the knife and demanded money, but the clerk instead jumped over the counter and struck the robber with an A-frame display sign, knocking the boxer shorts from his head.

Bhebe chased the worker around the store with the knife and quickly fled the shop.

Police said they identified Bhebe from security camera footage and DNA from the discarded boxer shorts.

Bhebe pleaded guilty in April to robbery and possession of a knife. He was sentenced by Croydon Crown Court to three years imprisonment.

Police: Man, 61, crashed cart into golfers

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla., May 2 (UPI) -- A group of golfers allegedly attacked by a 61-year-man on a Florida course said he "must have been having a bad day."

Murdock Hampe, 27, said he and five friends were golfing at Jacksonville Beach Municipal Golf Course Saturday for a bachelor party for Donald Salsbery when James Hines, 61, who was golfing with another man and two women behind the group, slammed his golf cart into the men, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday.

Hines allegedly broke a golf club over Hampe's head while shouting at the group that they were taking too long and needed to respect their elders.

"It was some guy who must have been having a bad day," said Hampe, who also suffered a leg injury when struck by the cart.

The men subdued Hines and police arrived a few moments later to arrest the older man on an aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charge.

The arrest report said Hines' actions were inspired by the other men drinking, driving golf carts recklessly and "malingering" on the greens.

However, the men said they were following the rules of the course.

Golf course officials could not be reached for comment.
