Police: 'Prophet' trashed psychic shop

STUART, Fla., April 24 (UPI) -- A Florida man who describes himself as a prophet on a mission from God is charged with trashing a psychic shop and several vehicles.

Police said Michael Novatka, 26, of West Palm Beach, was arrested outside the Psychic Corner shop in Stuart by officers responding to a report of a burglary in progress, The Palm Beach Post reported Tuesday.

Officers said Novatka allegedly smashed the front windows of the business, ripped TV sets from the wall and scattered money and shattered glass across the floor.

Novatka, who told police he was sent by God "to get rid of the devil's evil doings," directed officers to five cars he had damaged, including a Jeep on which he had written "Fear God" on in blood. He said God led him to the vehicles and told him they needed to be destroyed.

Novatka was charged with five felony counts of criminal mischief and three misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief. He was ordered held in lieu of $27,500 bail.
