MANOR, Pa., March 16 (UPI) -- Police in Pennsylvania said they arrested a man who handed a store clerk, who recognized him from school, a card stolen from the clerk's mother.
Manor police said Joshua Devonshire, 19, handed a stolen credit card to a clerk at the Turkey Hill gas station around 1 a.m. Tuesday and the clerk, who recognized Devonshire from school, recognized the card as belonging to her mother, the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal reported Friday.
Devonshire fled the store and the woman's mother later told police she spotted a man, later identified as Devonshire, attempting to break into her car in an apparent attempt to return stolen items.
Police said Devonshire, who is suspected of other vehicle burglaries in the area, was arrested later in the day when a resident reported a man and a woman sleeping in a car.
"Not to make light of this, but, really, this entire incident was a comedy of errors," police Sgt. Jim Alexander said. "Some people just aren't cut out to be criminals."
Devonshire was charged with two counts of theft and one count of access device fraud. He was taken to the Lancaster County jail in lieu of $3,000 bail.
