New Zealander lands 740-pound tuna

HOUHORA, New Zealand, March 9 (UPI) -- A New Zealand fisherman who reeled in a bluefin tuna weighing more than 740 pounds said he is waiting to hear whether the catch is a world record.

Nathan Adams, 42, said he caught the gargantuan fish while angling near Houhora, off the east coast of the country's North Island, during the 2012 New Zealand Sport Fishing Council National competition, Sky News reported Friday.

Adams said he believes his catch to be a world record for a tuna caught with a rod and reel, and he has submitted his feat to the International Game Fish Association for confirmation.
