NIKOLAI, Alaska, March 7 (UPI) -- An Iditarod sled dog racer who calls himself the "Mushing Mortician" says he saved one of his dogs during the grueling Alaska competition by performing CPR.

Anchorage funeral home owner Scott Janssen told the Anchorage Daily News he was heading down the Dalzell Gorge when one of his dogs, a 9-year-old husky named Marshall, collapsed Monday night.

"Boom! Laid right down. It was like a guy my age having a heart attack," Janssen, 51, said.

He said the dog appeared to have stopped breathing.

"I know what death looks like, and he was gone. Nobody home," Janssen said.

"I was sobbing. I really love that dog."

So he started compressing the husky's chest and breathing into his nose -- mouth-to-snout cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

"I had my mouth over his nose, breathing into his nose as I was compressing and rubbing his chest, trying to work the air out," Janssen said.

"I'm like c'mon dude, please come back. And he did."

Suddenly, he said, Marshall took a breath.

Janssen carried the dog to his sled and mushed about 32 miles to the Rohn checkpoint, breaking a runner along the way.

"The vets took a look. Gave Marshall an IV, and he's heading home," Janssen said. "He was fine this morning. Standing around, bummed out that he wasn't going with us."

Woman arrested for painting nails on plane

HOUSTON, March 7 (UPI) -- A California woman was arrested for allegedly cursing at a Southwest Airlines flight attendant who asked her to stop painting her nails, officials said.

Jeanie Daniels of Burbank was detained for 10 hours after the Feb. 26 altercation, CBS News reported Tuesday.

Daniels was en route from Los Angeles to Houston to visit her boyfriend and said she asked the people sitting around her if they would mind if she painted her fingernails. She said they told her to go ahead, but a flight attendant told her to stop.

"I thought it was all going well until the attendant came over and was very upset I was painting my nails, saying it was offending everyone around me," Daniels said.

She said she went into the airplane's bathroom to finish the paint job, but a second flight attendant stopped her. When the first flight attendant confronted her about the incident back at her seat, Daniels said she got upset because the attendant "just kept carrying it on and on."

"She was getting so loud when I was sitting in my seat. I was like, just stop, and I was loud when I said [expletive] because she wouldn't end the conversation," Daniels told CBS News.

Daniels was arrested upon arrival in Houston for use of profane language, though the charge was later dismissed. Daniels said officers also accused her of attempting to hit a flight attendant when she raised her hand to give a high five to the first attendant in an attempt to apologize.

"On stage, I blend right in with women in their 20s, 30s and up," Simmons said.

She said she got the idea in December when used the Cowboys cheerleader costume as inspiration for a fitness competition.

"I thought, that's something I never tried," Simmons said. "I always wanted to try out. I got real close in my early 20s, but got busy raising my daughter. And I thought, why not now?"

The Carrollton woman has been taking dance classes and private lessons to improve her flexibility and learn fast-paced routines.

"I love life. I'm having a blast. I'm having a ball," Simmons said.

3 siblings celebrate same-day birthdays

EYOTA, Minn., March 7 (UPI) -- Remembering birthdays will be easy in one Minnesota family with three children whose birthdays all fall on the same date, March 5.

The Rochester (Minn.) Post-Bulletin reported Carrie O'Neill of Eyota gave birth Monday to her and husband Shawn's third child, Russell, giving him the same birthday as his brother Nolen, who turned 4, and Rebecca, now 2.

Russell was born at 9:40 p.m. and his mother says, "He's doing wonderful."

"It's kind of amazing," she said of the coincidence, adding, "They won't forget each other's birthday."
