Tiny House makes own power, water

EVANSTON, Ill., March 5 (UPI) -- Northwestern University in Illinois said its 128-square-foot Tiny House will go on display to the public to teach about green living.

The school said the house, which was created by a team co-led by recent McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science graduate Kaycee Overcash, produces all of its own electricity using solar panels and collects its own water, allowing it to operate completely off the grid.

"We designed the house with the motto that the greenest square foot is the one you don't build," Overcash said. "That's why the toilet is in the shower."

The Tiny House, which sits atop a trailer, includes a living room, kitchen, bathroom, sleeping loft, storage area, an awning and a fireplace.

The house will be on display March 5-10 at the Ford Motor Co. Engineering Design Center.
