WASHINGTON, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. John Fleming has deleted a post on his Facebook page about a Planned Parenthood "Abortionplex" after discovering it was from The Onion.

Fleming, R-La., posted a link Friday to the May 18 article about a fictional "Abortionplex" facility for large-scale abortion operations and commented, "More on Planned Parenthood, abortion by the wholesale," Politico reported Tuesday.

However, the post has now been deleted after comment posters pointed out The Onion is a satirical publication. Fleming spokesman Doug Sachtleben confirmed the post was deleted but declined to comment further.

A screenshot of the post and some of its comments was archived by the blog Literally Unbelievable, which is dedicated to showing Facebook statuses from users who do not understand that articles from The Onion are fictional.

"The Onion is satire. How exactly did you get elected?" one commenter wrote on Fleming's post.

Onion editor Joe Randazzo released a statement saying the publication is proud to be read by Fleming.

"We're delighted to hear that Rep. Fleming is a regular reader of America's Finest News Source and doesn't bother himself with The New York Times, [The] Washington Post, the mediums of television and radio, or any other lesser journalism outlets," the statement read.
