MOLLE, Sweden, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- A Swedish teenager says she shelled-out about $650 to buy a 10-pound lobster for New Year's dinner.

The lobster, which measured nearly 3 feet in length, was pulled in the week before Christmas by a fisherman outside Kullaberg on the southwest coast of Sweden.

The crustacean, estimated to be more than 30 years old, was offered up for auction and 19-year-old Sofia Sandgren of Molle said she knew she had to have it -- at any price, Sveriges Radio reported.

"I love everything about seafood and really wanted to buy it as a special treat for my family on New Year's Eve," Sandgren told The Local.

Their plans to devour the lobster New Year's Eve were thwarted when they discovered they didn't have tools strong enough to the crack the thick shell. They took a saw to it the next day, however, and enjoyed a lobster feast for six that left them all stuffed, the Web site said Tuesday.

"It was amazing, absolutely wonderful," Sandgren told The Local.
