BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A Florida man on probation for a cockfighting arena found in his back yard was arrested after picking up a live rooster at a post office, police said.
Danny Pham, 36, of suburban Lake Worth was arrested just before 1:30 p.m. Friday after officers said they saw him pick up the chicken from the U.S. Postal Service office in Boynton Beach, The Palm Beach Post reported.
Police allege Pham planned to use the rooster, which was confiscated and turned over to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, for cockfighting and gambling.
Pham was among seven men arrested on charges of involvement with cockfighting during the Super Bowl in February 2009.
The Post said he had told Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies at the time he invited friends over to watch the game at his home but didn't know there was cockfighting going on out back.
A sheriff's report said deputies found a makeshift arena behind the house and 89 roosters in cages, as well as tools and equipment used for cockfighting.
Pham pleaded guilty but a judge withheld adjudication, and he was later put on probation and forbidden to possess any animals.
