TOBOLSK, Russia, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Russian officials said a Siberian man is lucky to be alive after a chunk of satellite crashed through his roof while he was out getting firewood.

Officials in the city of Tobolsk said eight fragments of the Meridian satellite, which was launched Friday from the Plesetsk space center in northern Russia, were found in the area after the satellite crashed only minutes after lift-off due to a failure of its Soyuz-2 carrier rocket, the Indo-Asian News Service reported Monday.

One of the pieces fell through the roof at the home of Andrei Krivorukov, who was retrieving firewood from his yard at the time of the incident.

Tobolsk administrators said they will cover the cost of repairing the home.
