HALLENDALE, Fla., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said deputies responding to a call about a burglary found the suspect hiding in a chicken coop.

The Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 9:30 a.m. call about a burglary Friday near Hallendale and chased the suspect on foot until he was found hiding in a chicken coop about a block away from the burglarized home, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Friday.

"It was a tiny chicken coop and the district chief said it was amazing he was able to fold himself in half and squeeze himself in there," Broward Sheriff's spokesman Jim Leljedal said.

The spokesman said deputies fired a gun at a dog during the chase.

"No dead or wounded animals have been found, so it's unknown whether the dog was shot," Leljedal said.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was taken into custody.
