WASHINGTON, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. first lady Michelle Obama said students, teachers and parents across the country set a world record for most people doing jumping jacks in one day.

Obama said on the letsmove.gov Web site the previous record of 20,000 people was smashed when schools counted a total 300,265 people performing the exercise in a 24-hour period in October.

"Breaking the record is a huge accomplishment. But we still have a lot of work left to do to meet an even bigger goal: ending childhood obesity within a generation so all children have a chance to grow up healthy and strong," letsmove.gov said.
