22 tons of Marmite waste spilled onto road

SHEFFIELD, England, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- British police say a tanker truck collided with another vehicle and spilled what was believed to be 22 tons of a yeast spread called Marmite onto the road.

Police said a section of the M1 motorway in South Yorkshire, near Sheffield, England, was closed in both directions about 10:15 p.m. Monday after the tanker overturned, dumping what appeared to be the yeast extract spread onto the roadway, The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the tanker driver was taken to a hospital with non-serious injuries.

Authorities were cleaning up the spill Tuesday.
