Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe TAIPEI, Taiwan, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- A total of 1,229 people gathered in Taipei, Taiwan, to set a world record for the most people to ever eat an oversized can of stinky tofu, officials say. The stinky tofu, which also was part of a record set earlier this week for the largest in history, was 35 inches high, almost 60 inches long in diameter and weighed 2,705 pounds, CNA reported Sunday. Advertisement An executive from Guinness World Records attended the event to certify the two new world records, organizers of the gathering said. Tianmu Marketplace Development Association Chairwoman Tang Di said the record-setting event was held in the Tianmu neighborhood of Taipei in an attempt to boost the area's appeal to foreign tourists. Edita Garskaite, of Lithuania, attended the event with a friend of hers. "Stinky tofu tastes so delicious. It isn't stinky at all," she said.
