LONDON, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A London police officer who spent the night with Occupy London protesters after being kicked out of a bar at the Savoy Hotel is embarrassed, his friends say.

The friends, on the other hand, find Constable Gary Withers' plight "hilarious," The Sun reported.

Withers could be disciplined for the incident, a spokesman said, once his superiors decide whether any regulations were actually broken, The Daily Telegraph said Thursday.

Withers, 35, a member of the City of London police force, was celebrating completion of a marksmanship course when he was asked to leave the bar, apparently because of drunkenness, the report said. Some kindly protesters in the camp outside St. Paul's Cathedral gave him space in a tent for the night.

The Sun described Withers as "feeling very embarrassed." The 35-year-old is an Army veteran.
