KEY WEST, Fla., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said they received a phone call from a man in Kentucky who wanted to turn himself in for robbing a bank four years ago.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Michael Mitchell, 52, called a detective Wednesday and said he wanted to turn himself in for robbing a TIB Bank in the Florida Keys in 2007, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Friday.
Deputies said Mitchell, who lives in Louisville, Ky., provided detailed information about the robbery that was not released to the public.
Mitchell told detectives the fake bomb he used in the holdup was made from a cellphone, wire, batteries and black electrical tape.
Mitchell was taken into custody in Kentucky and will be brought to Monroe County to face charges of bank robbery and grand theft.
